The man with the plan.

You´ve got the invite, but where do you go from here? It´s amazing how one fancy piece of paper can be so confusing. Black tie, white tie, semi-formal, optional—these are just a few terms from the glossary of uncertainty. But worry not, with Seno, you´re no longer in the dark; you´re in the spotlight.

Invite 101 is in session. So pay close attention—failure on this test is not an option.

Black Tie Attire

Fundraiser, formal, function, etc. This is your chance to be a regular dapper dandy. These classy events call for a tuxedo to match. Don´t get crazy with colors. Play it safe with the classic look, and you´ll be just fine.

Black Tie Optional/Black Tie Invited/Black Tie Preferred

These phrases are all used interchangeably. What the host really means is that he/she would prefer that you wear a tux, but if worse comes to worse, you may also wear a suit. Word to the wise: Wear the tux. There´s nothing wrong with sportin´ a little style and sophistication. Options include a dark tuxedo of your choice or a white dinner jacket (mid-April through Labor Day).

White Tie Attire

Ultra-formal. The apex of special occasions. Wear a black full dress coat (a.k.a. black tails), traditional black tuxedo pants, a white pique shirt, a white pique vest, a white tie, and black patent leather shoes. Complete the package with white studs and cufflinks and optional white gloves, top hat, and cane, depending on the occasion.

Formal Attire

See Black Tie Attire. However, if you have any doubt, give the host a call. Better safe than sorry.

Semi-Formal Attire

The trickiest of them all. Know the event, and use good taste and common sense. Nice suits and sport jackets are appropriate.
